Elon Musk made an announcement on Twitter today that the approval badge sale will resume next week. The new Twitter Blue approval checkmark sale was said to start on November 29 last week but was later postponed. The checkmark subscription is ready for re-launch according to Musk’s new statement. Elon Musk, who lost serious advertising revenue on Twitter due to the problems experienced, also said that they could prepare different colored approval badges to prevent the loss of advertising revenue and protect real companies.
Twitter Blue will relaunch on December 2
Musk responded to a user on Twitter apologizing for the delay in relaunching the service. Also stated that the company was “tentatively” launching its verification service on December 2. Twitter will use different colored check marks to distinguish between three types of accounts, according to the platform’s new owner.
Musk had to put his “official” badge into use in order to prevent the problems he created for himself. He confirmed that there will be badges in different colors in the new period that will start again today. According to Musk, there will be a gold badge for companies, a gray badge for government agencies, and a blue badge for individuals, whether they are famous or not. Musk said that all verified accounts will be manually verified before the new badge infrastructure is enabled. Stating that this is “painful but necessary,” Musk also will sell the badge to users for $8 per month.
As it turns out, offering so-called verified check marks for an $8 monthly subscription without actually verifying identities wasn’t a brilliant idea. After Musk ignored warnings from Twitter’s own trust and safety staff, the platform’s paid Twitter Blue subscriptions rolled out. That quickly resulted in some ‘verified’ accounts impersonating notable public figures and brands, driving away advertisers from the “high-risk” platform.
